IAAS Exchange Coordinators Meeting 2017 Vienna
We were delighted that IAAS Exchange Coordinator Meeting 2017 was be held in Vienna, Austria`s beautiful capital city from April 2nd – 9th 2017.
This year’s Exchange Coordinator Meeting (ExCo) revolved about the theme “Connecting youth in agriculture – between tradition and innovation”. For the first time IAAS Austria hosted the IAAS Exchange Coordinators Meeting.
The Exchange Coordinators Meeting (IAAS ExCo 2017) is a one week event, where about 45 students from all over the world, come to Vienna and meet in order to meet and improve the Exchange Programme. This programme communications internships for students in the field of agriculture and related sciences worldwide.
Practical, helpful workshops and trainings on the IAAS Exchange Program that aim to provide the participants with the best skills to further the Exchange Programmes in every IAAS country.
Many interesting excursions such as visiting innovative companies like a snail breeding farm, urban mushroom production, bio dynamic wine production or the Austrian animal feed producer Biomin awaited the participants. The focus of the excursions lay on potraying the Austrian food sector, especially its regional agricultural innovations as much as traditional Austrian quality products.
Sustainability is the key! We hereby aimed to organize our event as sustainable as possible. This includes several aspects of our event - public transportation - regional (organic) foods - "saved foods" (gerettete Lebensmittel) - workshop on Food Waste together with foodsharing initiative - reusable kitchen and silverware and much more. Furthermore our participants received information and were able to learn hands-on sustainability. Therefore we hope to share the spirit of sustainability in all the participating countries. We are proud to have Franz Fischler, former European Commissioner of Agriculture and Rural Development as patron of our event. Furthermore gave a keynote speech on "Persepectives and challenges for youth in agriculture between tradition and innovation” on 3rd of April as part of our official meet & great at the Universität für Bodenkultur.
